The Auslan Company was established in November 2004 by a deaf man, Darren Roberts. Today, we are the largest provider of Auslan Professional Development Courses and Deaf Awareness Training in Australia.

IF, AFTER 8 WEEKS YOU BELIEVE YOU CANNOT
COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH A DEAF PERSON,
THEN YOU CAN ATTEND THE NEXT LEVEL $ FREE!

AUSLAN COMMUNITY COURSES - 8 weeks x 2 hours per week (16 hours)

Is your impression of learning Auslan WRONG? Do you think it is all about a deaf teacher teaching you one sign after another and you simply copying them and hoping to remember the signs?  Are you afraid you may not be able to understand the deaf teacher?  That you will feel awkward and silly?

LOSE YOUR ASSUMPTIONS!!

Today, Auslan classes are about interaction. Its about you putting into practice what the teacher teaches you and we do this by constantly teaching a page of signs and then working in pairs or groups to practice sentences using correct Auslan grammar. Thus you are ALWAYS learning new signs. As we have seen in week 2 students, already they can easily have a 30 minute conversation about their families, where they live, their names, age, their favorite books, movies, dvd's, restaurants, the sports they play - not just shallow conversations but in depth.

WOULDN'T YOU LOVE TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT TOO?

The teacher uses a whiteboard to communicate difficult explanations but you all have a workbook, the same as the course teachers, so you can always understand what they want to get across. And, after the first session you will ALWAYS be able to communicate with your teacher using fingerspelling,
signs or giving visual clues.

Our COMMUNITY based courses are 8 weeks x 2 hours per week and have been designed to be fun, interactive and intensive with lots of vocabulary practice, exercises, activities, pair and group work to develop your Auslan expressive and receptive skills.  We have 5 level of classes.

COMPARE PRICES BETWEEN COURSES:
The Auslan Company - 8 weeks / 2 hours per week = $200 ($180 in country)
Another provider - 6 weeks / 2 hours per week = $185

Are TAFE Auslan courses more expensive than our courses?  Do they provide a DVD free of charge? And do you receive a professionally printed workbook or just handouts of old line drawings of Auslan signs?

COMPARE the DIFFERENCE!!

As part of enrolling in our Auslan Level 1 course you'll receive:

* A complimentary copy of our Auslan Training DVD

The Professional Development Training can be from 2 to 6 hours in one day right through to 2 hours per week for 6 to 8 weeks.  It can be taught through the day, the evening after work or on a weekend.

We pride ourselves on our flexibility to create curriculums and training manuals that are designed to meet YOUR training requirements.  We work with you to create the Auslan signs you want to cover as well as providing each staff with a training manual that includes many of the signs taught in the workplace classes.

At the end of a fun, interactive and practical course all staff will be able to hold a basic conversation in Auslan.

Auslan for Childcare and Family Day Care Staff

We also run a 2, 4 or 6 hour workshops over 1 day (or 2-3 sessions once a week) 'Introduction to Auslan' course for staff who work in schools, kindergartens and childcare centres which is becoming extremely popular.  You will learn over 200 basic Auslan signs, how to work with a deaf child in an educational setting and develop your understanding of issues a deaf or hearing impaired child faces in an educational setting.  You will also learn signs for nursery rhymes.  Great for the kids when you teach them at home!

In 2008 we have taught council staff, disability staff, education staff, emergency services staff, university students, child care staff,
family day care staff as well as general public with an interest in learning Auslan and communicating with deaf and non verbal children and adults.
