ABOUT THE DVD

• Have you always wanted to know a sign and have never been able to find it?
• Have you tried to work out from a photo how the sign moves but can’t?
• For the very first time in Australia, here is a two set DVD (A to K and L to Z) with over 1350 Auslan / Makaton signs
  in alphabetical order.
• With an interactive menu you can easily find the sign you are searching for.
• Each sign has both slow and normal speed so you can see how signs are formed, how they move and you can practice
  at the same time.
• Each sign can be learnt to use with Deaf people or with people who use Makaton to communicate.
• There is NO voiceover on the DVD although each sign will be accompanied by text so you can see the word that is signed.

NOTES ABOUT THE DVD

The DVD was created by Darren Roberts of The Auslan Company and produced and edited by two gifted Deaf women, Vicky and Sarah of Dots Mise Studio.  The teacher on the DVD is Jennie Kadiki, a well known Deaf community member who has been teaching with us since we first taught Auslan Community and Workplace courses in January 2005.

The DVD is unique to Australia in that there is no other DVD of A to Z of Auslan signs available except in photographic format.

It is also unique in that there is no other DVD with a full listing of words under each alphabet letter which means you are able to click on 'B' and then click on the word 'Ball'.  You can then scroll back to the main menu and do a search for another word.

Watching Jennie sign you will easily be able to copy her movements and in turn learn and memorise the signs through repetition.

After extensive consultation within the Deaf community we decided not to use voiceover because in an Auslan class the teachers do not use voice when teaching.  Instead we decided to add text next to Jennie so you can see what word is being signed.

The DVD has two speeds of sign; slow and normal speed.  This will enable people to see how the handshapes are formed and where on the body and then the sign is repeated at normal speed.

In this DVD there is no information about Auslan grammar.  These are simply Auslan signs used today by, generally, the Victorian Deaf Community.

The approxiamately 1350 Auslan signs were chosen by our selection panel of 3 Auslan Teachers and Darren.  We took into account that we have Part 2 of "A to Z of Everyday Auslan Signs" DVD coming out in March/April with another 1350 everyday Auslan signs.

We hope you like this DVD and have fun learning Auslan signs.  If you think of a word you would like included in the Part 2 DVD please let us know.
